On arriving back from holiday i had to see if the Mallard Ducklings had left, great news as when i got to the pond 7 big Ducklings came hobbling out the reeds to greet me, or for food that i had in a bag. When i was feeding them i noticed that one had a… Read more »

Chiff Chaff at the Hide

First sighting of the Chiff Chaff was recorded down at the hide on Wednesday 18 May. It sat in the Conifer and had a good sing song before flying off. They don’t stay in one place for a long time so i was happy to get a couple of pictures of it.

Jay

Changed the Hide set up and got a few pictures of the Jay in Flight.

2 Years waiting for a Stoat

Well it finally happened I went down to the Hide on Friday last week to find the remains of a bird next to the hide extension, so I decided to set the trail camera up to see what was eating he bird. Later on Friday I went down to do some photography only to find… Read more »

Mallard Ducklings

We are down to seven ducklings who are growing fast and learning all the tricks of the trade. I feed them a mixture of bird food twice a day and they seem to love it. There funny to watch and I just wish that I could be around when they fledge, but I am away… Read more »

After 3 weeks the Racing Pigeon died from ill health, I thought it would get better after feeding it but there must have been something else wrong with it.

Good news on the Mallard Ducklings, after 5 weeks it now looks like we are going to have 7 Ducklings. There feeding well and getting bigger by the day, so it wont be long before they fledge. I would love to see the first flight but the timing would have to be spot on to… Read more »

Mallard Family update

After 4 weeks there are 7 out of 13 Ducklings left, most have been taken by the Grey Heron through the night as the Heron hunts 24 hours of the day when rearing its young. They fledge at 60-70 days.

Swallows are here

The Swallows are back 2 at the moment flying round the stables, what a great sight when you see them against the rare blue sky. Swallows are small birds with dark, glossy-blue backs, red throats, pale underparts and long tail streamers. They are extremely agile in flight and spend most of their time on… Read more »

Pied Wagtail

Nice little Pied Wagtail down at the pond, great to watch and good to photograph. A delightful small, long-tailed and rather sprightly black and white bird. When not standing and frantically wagging its tail up and down it can be seen dashing about over lawns or car parks in search of food. It frequently… Read more »

Trail Camera Tra

Fantastic news i my hunch paid off, or should i say Wildlife Skills. The Common Buzzard is very clever and will only approach a Road Kill when it feels there is no danger. I have seen 2 of them from the hide so i placed some chicken on a tree stump and pointed the Trail… Read more »

New Reflection Pool

This is my 3rd attempt at a reflection pool for the birds, but again i am not 100% happy with it. I will see how it goes and maybe try another one using Bricks and mortar.
